Beer maid

For the painting “BeerMaid” , I took Johannes Vermeer’s “The Milkmaid” as my reference. In the original, Vermeer focuses primarily on the act of painting itself rather than the subject matter, and I wanted to follow a similar approach — to concentrate on the painterly process and its visual qualities.

At the same time, I decided to keep the main figure from the original composition — the maid — but in my version, the milk jug was replaced with a beer keg. Beer, for me, is one of the key symbols of the youth culture I belong to. It also makes the scene feel more natural and logical within the context of contemporary life, compared to a jug of milk.

As my main focus in this work was on technique, the painting became a kind of testing ground where I experimented with new methods and materials. Many of these discoveries have since become an essential part of my artistic practice.
